Background

Luca was born as Rosemary "Rosie” Raine Wynn, alongside his twin sister Chloe August Wynn in a remote, uncharted mountain town in Crownpeak. Life was rugged, life was hard, but life was good. Food was always on the table at the end of the day, firewood chopped, stacked, and ablaze to keep their home warm, and the air filled with the smell of freshly baked berry tarts. Their mother, whose name has long since faded from memory, worked as their village baker, day and night to keep everyone fed. Their father, whose name Luca actively tries to forget, was the glue that kept their family together. In his spare time, he rebuilt cars and vehicles and pushed them to their limits.

Though initially born a daughter, Luca’s father had always wanted a son. From an early age, he pulled Rosie away from more traditionally feminine tasks—baking with their mother, helping in the kitchen—and guided her toward grit, labor, and the rough-and-tumble work of the outdoors. Luca chopped wood alongside his father and his friends, repaired vehicles, and learned to thrive in Crownpeak's cold, harsh conditions. Over time, Luca internalized that toughness as a natural part of life, shaping him into someone who could endure and adapt without complaint.

But that peace didn’t last.

Just north of their village stood a quarantine zone for stage 4 Ferocks-infected Taijekan. Victims of "mindrot," a terminal and untreatable condition that turns its hosts into feral, bloodthirsty creatures. When a containment breach sent the infected into Luca’s town, everything was lost in a single night. Homes were torched, neighbors were killed, and Luca never found his mother.

But his father he remembers.

Stage 4 hits fast, especially if bitten near the head. In the midst of the chaos and trying to find his family, he found his father, who succumbed to the disease and began terrorizing his very home like a savage beast. There was no hope to save him. At age 12, Luca now had to protect his sister from the man who raised them both, or what was left of him.

It was the first, and last time that Luca had ever used a gun.

The twins fled to Timbermaw as refugees. Survival demanded Luca take increasingly tough work: clearing rocks from marshes, repairing torn down buildings, and eventually working in the Veyloris Precinct docks. Rosie could never keep up with the work, and it forced her to man up. The gentle, quiet parts of Rosie were buried beneath layers of grit, calloused hands (paws?), and endless labor. Over time, he adopted the name Lucas, which coworkers eventually shortened to Luca.

Even as he hardened, fragments of Rosie lingered. Sometimes he would catch his reflection and feel discomfort with his chest or the figure of his old self. A misgendering at work or an unthinking comment from someone passing by would ignite a flare of frustration and confusion. The weight of years pressing down, combined with the memory of his father’s half-approval, began to split Luca down the middle. Eventually, he had enough.

Luca decided to undergo GRS to affirm his identity as male. It was a rushed decision, born more from the desire of control than from careful planning. Only Chloe knows the full truth, and doesn't dare bring it up to anyone else. The surgery forced him into being Luca, a man who could tackle the world with strength and resilience. Yet in private, Rosie was still there, sometimes as a softness, sometimes as a submission in intimacy, always a reminder that Luca could never be satisfied with his decision.

Luca now carries the duality quietly, masking it behind charm, humor, and recklessness, while quietly questioning whether he became Luca to survive, to cope, or to reconcile with his father’s impossible standards. And sometimes he wondered, if given the chance, would he ever reclaim Rosie? Or would he even want to?

Personality

Luca presents as a charming, loud, and playful individual. He’s a flirt, a goofball, and a real weirdo. Humor and recklessness are his shields, masking the trauma and guilt he carries from his past. He is impulsive, quick to act, and rarely ever stops to think about the consequences of his actions.

Luca’s charm, humor, and energy make him instantly likable, but those who get close quickly realize that beneath the confidence lies a broken man constantly struggling to figure out who he is with who he was forced to become. He seeks validation and control over his life, yet doubts whether he can ever fully accept his duality or escape the shadow of his past.

Skills/Interests

Motivations

Luca is driven by a deep need to survive, prove himself, and protect those who become part of his chosen family. His drive to be competent, tough, and self-reliant stems from years of survival work, but also from the lingering influence of his father, who shaped him into a hardened, capable young "man."

Beneath the adrenaline and skill lies a desire to reconcile with his past: to justify his survival, make sense of the choices he had to make, and affirm that he is more than the trauma he endured. At the same time, he wrestles with identity and self-expression, balancing the parts of himself that are Luca with the softer traces of Rosie, and trying to reconcile them without letting either define him entirely.

Conflict

Luca struggles with survivor’s guilt and the moral weight of his past, particularly the night he had to shoot his father. That trauma bleeds into his sense of identity, fueling doubts about whether he became Luca because he wanted to, or to honor his father’s expectations.

Externally, Luca navigates the pressures of loyalty, responsibility, and competition in a harsh world. He faces physical and social challenges in his hobbies, his job, and his social circle.

He wants to be everyone’s protector, but fears that no one would stay if they saw what he really is.
